Analysis of the Water Distribution Network and the Design of the Wastewater Collection Network for Jaba’ Village
Water is vital for life, it is used in all aspects of life like residential, industrial, agricultural and commercial use, so it can be noticed that human life cannot continue without availability of water, and everybody aims to get water with both suitable amount and quality, which can occur by engineered network systems.
Jaba’ village is served by water distribution network with new design. The network consists of reservoir located at the top of the village with elevation equal 470 m AMSL where water go through pipes by gravity. By analyzing the network, it appeared a problem of high pressure values in areas of low elevations at the bottom of the village with elevation equal 272 m AMSL resulting in making damages in pipes, valves and water meters. By this project, the problem mentioned will solved by a good selected solution.
When this water is consumed, it becomes wastewater. Jaba’ as many areas in Palestine doesn’t have any form of wastewater collection networks because of the insufficient investment in the water infrastructure. Moreover, nearly all of the people there use cesspits to dispose the wastewater which in most of the cases forms dangerous environmental effects including contamination of groundwater aquifers. The decision was to design a wastewater collection network for this area which is the only and proper solution to this problem. So, a huge reduction in the environmental negative effects and groundwater contamination as the people won’t need cesspits anymore.
Methodology starts by determining hydraulic problems in the study area which is Jaba’, followed by collecting data and information from the area of study, including the total demand, present population, contour map, master plan and existing network plan. By using the suitable computer software programs such as WaterCAD, GIS and SewerCAD, this data will be used to analyze and design networks to meet the required objectives.
The final products from this project are, water distribution network divided to three zones depending on elevations to control pressure values within the accepted range which called pressure zoning, and a good design for a wastewater collection network that satisfy design constraint and allow transporting sewage efficiently.
