Wastewater Treatment is a major practice required for civilized societies in order to protect public health and efficiently manage the water sector. The primary purpose of this report is to analyze the current treatment plant in the city of Jenin and to design a new wastewater treatment plant based on modern engineering practices and procedures.
The existing treatment plant in Jenin is consisted of headwork as screen, in addition to several aerated lagoons. The effluent is discharge into a nearby wadi Al-Muqatta’. The plant was constructed in 1972 and considered as overloaded; reduced treatment efficiencies was registered over years by Jenin Municipality, and odor nuisance is a major problem in the surrounding area. The effluent is not reused due to its high contamination.
A new treatment plant was designed and presented here utilizing an anaerobic technology as UASB, incorporated with aerobic technology as activated sludge. The new plant is expected to produce effluents according to the Palestinian standards, that will open a door for beneficial reuse in crops irrigation
